FR. SIMON McGURK

FR.-SIMON-McGURKFr. Simon McGurk, O.S.B. has been Parish Priest of Weobley and Kington since November 2012.

He is a monk of Belmont Abbey, Hereford, where he was also at school. He comes originally from The Wirral, Cheshire. He joined the monastery after school in 1961. In 1965 he was sent to the University of Fribourg in Switzerland to study theology for the priesthood. On returning in 1969, he was asked to work in Belmont Abbey school, where he remained until 1988.

He was ordained a Priest in 1972. For a time he was Guestmaster at the Abbey, then served as Parish Priest in the Abbey’s Parish and then at St. Francis Xavier’s RC Church in Hereford.

In 2001, he was asked to go to Peru where Belmont had a nascent community, then after 5 years he was asked to be the Superior of the Abbey of St. Anselm in Washington D.C. until 2011.

On returning to Belmont, he was appointed in 2012 to be the Parish Priest of St.Thomas of Hereford, Weobley and St.Bede the Venerable in Kington.

In 2022, the parishioners most generously celebrated with him his 50 years as a priest … and he is still happy!
