CAFOD is the official aid agency for the Catholic Church in England and Wales. Its mission is to work alongside the world’s poorest people, whatever their faith or ethnic background, believing that our Catholic values are best shown through our love for others and by working for justice and an end to poverty.
CAFOD’s vision, mission and values draw directly from Catholic Social Teaching (CST), Scripture, Liturgy, the Gospel and the tradition of the Church.
As well as providing practical support through the generosity of donors, CAFOD also campaigns for justice for the poor, especially for those now being affected by the damaging results of climate change.
CAFOD is part of Caritas, a Church network with a local presence in 165 countries and territories. As one of the largest aid networks in the world, it can help people in remote areas, in war zones and those who are discriminated against. The Church often reaches the poorest people in areas where social care and government structures aren’t so strong.
Our parish has long been a generous supporter of CAFOD through the regular Fast Day collections and also through the many emergencies that have afflicted people in different parts of the world.
